"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" doesn't hit theaters until November 2016, but we're slowly getting a better idea of what the Harry Potter spin-off will be about.

The first trailer for the film dropped earlier Tuesday and it looks totally awesome.

"Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them" is set in 1926 in New York City.

It stars Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander.

Scamander is a magizoologist who studies magical creatures, like hinkypunks and grindylows, which you might remember from the original "Harry Potter" series.

In New York, Scamander will interact with Porpentina "Tina" Goldstein, a witch who works at the Magical Congress of the United States of America, the U.S. version of the Ministry of Magic.

Goldstein is played by Katherine Waterston, who starred in 2015's "Steve Jobs."

Tina' sister Queenie is a "legilimens," meaning she can read minds, much like Severus Snape and Lord Voldemort. She'll be played by Alison Sudol.

Wizards in New York City live in great fear of being discovered by their non-magical peers.

In past, non-magical folk have been known as "muggles," but in "Fantastic Beasts," these people are called "No-Maj."

Of course, they're right to be scared. There's a group called the "Second Salemers" (think Salem Witch Trials) who are out to destroy wizards and magic. Actress Samantha Morton plays Mary-Lou, a member of this group in the new film.

Mary-Lou has a son named Credence. We don't know much about him, but he will be portrayed by Ezra Miller.

The real trouble begins when some of Scamander's creatures get loose and begin to wreak havoc on New York City.

Here's Carmen Ejogo, who appears to be the US wizarding president, looking very concerned about news of Scamander's escaped creatures. What was in that case?

Rounding out the cast, Colin Farrell plays an auror named Graves, who works closely with the wizarding president.

And Dan Fogler will play Jacob Kowalski, a No-Maj who works in an NYC factory but dreams of becoming a baker. Here we can see Kowalski behind Scamander, with what looks like Scamander's magical case in hand!
