Apple's CEO Tim Cook hinted that there are some game-changing new features coming to future iPhones.

Speaking to CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday, Cook said that the company has iPhones in the pipeline that will convince current iPhone owners to upgrade.

"We have great innovation in the pipeline, like new iPhones that will incent you and other people that have iPhones today to upgrade to new iPhones," Cook said.

"We are going to give you things that you can't live without, that you just don't even know you need today...You will look back and wonder 'how did I live without this?'"

Cook's rare interview comes at a time when the company is facing increased scrutiny from Wall Street for slowing iPhone sales, especially in China. Cook said that the problem wasn't isolated to Apple and that all smartphone makers are going through the same slowdown in the region. Last quarter was the first-ever sales decline in the iPhone's history, although Apple still sold 51.2 million of them.

Slowing iPhone growth isn't the only problem Wall Street has with Apple, though. The company has also been criticized for not being innovative enough to stay ahead of its competitors. Cook tried to address these concerns as well.

"We don't talk about futures as a company, we are fairly secretive," Cook said. "We are incredibly excited about things we are working on, incredibly excited ...we have great innovation in the pipeline."

Another interesting tidbit form the interview was related to Apple's acquisition strategy. Cook said that the company buys a new company on average at least once a month.

"We acquire a company every three to four weeks on average. It's a rare month a company is not being bought. We typically buy for technology and really great people," he said.
