When Apple released a rechargeable battery case for the iPhone this week, it was met with negative reviews and plenty of criticism on the internet for its odd design.

People mocked the $100 case's strange, hump-like design and positioning of the battery indicator inside the actual case.

But wait: don't call it a "hump," Apple CEO Tim Cook told Mashable's Lance Ulanoff Cook praised the case's ability to slide onto the iPhone in one piece. (Battery cases from companies like Mophie tend to have two-part designs that take more time to put on and take off the device).

Cook also explained why someone may want Apple's new case.

“If you’re charging your phone every day, you probably don’t need this at all," Cook told Mashable. "But if you’re out hiking and you go on overnight trips… it’s kind of nice to have.”
