A new commercial for 'The Walking Dead' hints at a big scene from the comics

AMC ran a new ad for the mid-season premiere of "The Walking Dead" and it foreshadows a big event from the comics.

The 29-second ad is filled with a lot of the same scenes from the prologue to the next episode, featuring Daryl (Norman Reedus), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz).

The parts fans should pay attention to are at the beginning and the end involving Rick (Andrew Lincoln). Comic fans will know where this is heading.

First, check out the trailer and then we'll take a deeper dive.

From here on, there are spoilers from the comics and potential spoilers from the next eight episodes of "The Walking Dead."

A new line from Rick in the opening of the commercial says "I thought, living behind these walls was possible. I was wrong." Remember, the last time we saw him, Rick was leading a group (Michonne, his son Carl, Gabriel, Jessie and her kids) out of Alexandria, which had just been overrun by zombies.

He's using a tactic which worked for him and Glenn back in season one — walking straight through the horde by mucking themselves up with zombie guts to blend in.

It went pretty smoothly back then with two people, but don't count on it being as easy this time around.

In the comics, Jessie has one son, Ron, who winds up creating a commotion and drawing the attention of the walkers. He wets his pants and wants to return back to the house. As one could imagine, talking when you're in a throng of zombies is never a good idea, and things don't turn out so well for Ron, who in the show is called Sam.

From where we left off in November, it looks like Jessie's son Sam was about to cause a similar outcry. From here, everything goes downhill in the comics. Jessie naturally freaks out and refuses to leave her son.

There's just one problem.

She's holding onto Carl's hand in the comic and is dragging him back toward the zombie chaos. She refuses to let go of Carl and Rick is faced with quite the dilemma. That's when he decides to use his hatchet to cut off Jessie's hand.

Judging by the teaser, it looks like we may see some of this play out.

The beginning of the ad focuses in on Carl taking Jessie's hand.

We saw this in the final moments of the mid-season finale. We know the order of the line is Rick, Carl, and Jessie, followed by her sons Sam and Ron.

Throughout the teaser we see Rick hacking away with his hatchet.

At the 23 second mark, we see him come swinging down hard. Is that Rick freeing Carl of Jessie's hold?

We'll find out more when "The Walking Dead" returns on Valentine's Day, February 14.
