Get ready Tesla fans — CEO Elon Musk is planning on creating more affordable cars down the road.
In a conversation with Ketil Solvik-Olsen, Norway's Minister of Transport and Communications, Musk said future cars will be even more affordable than the Model 3.
"I'm super excited about being able to produce a car that most people can afford," Musk said. "And there will be future cars that are even more affordable down the road."
The Model 3 generated a lot of buzz before it was even unveiled April 1 because of its competitive price of $35,000 before federal tax exemptions. In fact, more than 115,000 people pre-ordered the Model 3 before even seeing it.
"But with something like the Model 3, it's designed such that roughly half of people will be able to afford the car," Musk explained. "Then, with fourth generation and smaller cars and whatnot, we'll ultimately be in the position where everyone will be able to afford the car."
There are reports that Tesla is working on an electric truck and SUV that would be dubbed the Model Y. Whether the Model Y will serve as Tesla's affordable fourth-generation car has yet to be seen.
