The incredible doors on Tesla's Model X got a sweet update

One of the standout features of the Model X, the newest all-electric car from Tesla, is its beautiful and functional Falcon Wing doors.

The double-hinged Falcon Wing doors allow for easy ingress and egress from the car's second and third row seats. While opening and closing, they remain tucked close to the body of the car to prevent collisions with nearby objects.

With these convenient doors and all that room for people and cargo, the Model X has the potential to be the "ultimate self-driving taxi."

Recently, Tesla released a new software update for the Model X, which specifically affects how you can use the Falcon Wing doors. Now, you can choose to lift the doors at "half mast."

The obvious question here: Why would you want the Falcon Wing doors at half mast? What's wrong with full mast?

Well, apparently having the doors all the way up isn't totally effective at keeping snow or rain out of the car, particularly when it's raining or snowing sideways. This new door position, which acts more like an umbrella, is apparently better at shielding the car's interiors from the elements while also still allowing plenty of room for people to get in and out of the car without bumping their heads.

One Model X owner, Bjørn Nyland, recorded his car with the latest update. The two-minute video offers a brief walkthrough of what it's like to use this feature and what the difference in the doors looks like when you have one at half mast. Check it out below.
