Instagram photographer Ryan Parrilla is having quite the week.

Parrilla, 16, is currently a featured photographer at the Royalton Hotel's "#OurConcreteJungle" series, which spotlights four of New York's top Instagrammers. The event runs until September 30. 

Since joining the photo-sharing platform in 2013, Parrilla has gained over 92,000 followers on Instagram. He's best known for pictures of New York City, ranging from amazing skyline shots to intimate profiles of strangers walking the city streets.

He's since upgraded to a nicer camera. Today, Parrilla shoots with a Canon camera and edits his pictures using Adobe Lightroom.

His current photo exhibition, "New York In The Sky" features 15 of his favorite NYC shots and is on display at New York's Royalton Hotel until September 30th.

"I shoot whatever catches my eye as I move through the city," Parrilla explained of his subject choices.

Parrilla says that getting the perfect photo can require a lot of patience.

"Trying to get the figure in the reflection to fit the width of the sculpture took almost 45 minutes," Parrilla told TI about this photo, his favorite in the "New York In The Sky" collection.

Other times, Parrilla has to move quickly to get his shot.

"Sometimes it's just a reaction to a situation and I‘ll snap immediately, like if someone is walking by a building and I like the way the light is falling on them," Parrilla told TI.

Skateboarding helped spark Parrilla's interest in photography. The teenager would take pictures of his friends as they boarded around New York City.

"When I was younger I wasn’t really exploring the city by myself yet, so boarding helped me see different parts of the city and get inspired to take pictures," Parrilla explained.

Parrilla says he has been taking pictures since the age of 7.

"At home, I was always reading National Geographic and Time Magazine, so those were a big source of my inspiration," Parrilla said.

As much as he loves photographing New York City, Parrilla says he has enjoyed getting to travel the world with his camera. This shot is from a trip to Mexico.
