Netflix just announced that it's now available in nearly every country in the world.

Before Wednesday, Netflix was available in about 60 countries. The company said early last year that it had plans to expand globally by the end of 2016.

Reed Hastings, the CEO of Netflix, made the announcement during a keynote at CES, the annual tech conference in Las Vegas.

"Today, right now, you are witnessing the birth of a global TV network," Hastings told the crowd.

Hastings said that Netflix is not available yet in China, but he hopes to launch there "soon."

Netflix is also not available in North Korea, Syria, and Crimea "due to U.S. government restrictions on American companies," the company said.

Netflix's stock, which more than doubled in 2015 (it was the top performing stock of the S&P 500 last year) was up about 6% on the news.
