Microsoft Edge, the successor to Internet Explorer, is unlikely to get browser extensions — add-on software like AdBlock, Hola, and so on — until "summer 2016," WinBeta reports

The company originally planned to launch extensions "later this year" after launching Edge without them, but the plans have been moved backwards. WinBeta notes that this is likely due to Microsoft's development schedule, which pushes out updates periodically meaning the company has left it too late to include browser extensions in this update cycle.

Many users who can't install extensions have been turned off by Edge, leading to a poor performance in terms of market share

In a statement provided to WinBeta, Microsoft claimed that "developers who build extensions for other modern browsers using common Web technologies like JavaScript and HTML, will work with Microsoft Edge with little or no code changes."
