Londoners who live in Embassy Gardens - a luxury 2,000-home complex -will soon swim laps in the world's first glass-encased sky pool.

Arup Associates and Ballymore Group designed both the sky pool and Embassy Gardens in London's Nine Elms District.

The 82-foot-long pool, which is expected to be finished by 2018, will bridge two residential buildings. The aerial tank's water will be 4 feet deep, and the glass will be a mere 20 centimeters thick.

"It will feel like floating through the air in central London," Ballymore's CEO Sean Mulryan said in a press release.

If it looks like a human aquarium, that's because it basically is. To develop it, Arup Associates enlisted a team of glass and marine designers.

"My vision for the sky pool stemmed from a desire to push the boundaries in the capability of construction and engineering," Mulryan said. "I wanted to do something that had never been done before." The pool will allow residents to swim between the complex's roof top bar, spa, and a greenhouse of orange trees.

If the tank's height and the thin glass seem too daunting, people can also opt for the nearby walkway.
