Steve Jobs' widow tried to kill Aaron Sorkin's movie about the Apple co-founder

Critics may be praising Aaron Sorkin's "Steve Jobs" movie, but the Apple co-founder's widow tried to keep it from ever being made.

Laurene Powell Jobs "repeatedly tried to kill the film," according to The Wall Street Journal. She's not alone in expressing her distaste. Other former and current Apple executives have come out publicly against films depicting Jobs since his death in 2011.

On a recent episode of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," Apple CEO Tim Cook accused filmmakers like Sorkin of being "opportunistic" by making films about Jobs.

Apple's Eddy Cue, who was a friend of Jobs' and currently runs the company's iTunes Store and other internet services, walked out of a screening of Alex Gibney's documentary, "Steve Jobs: Man in the Machine," earlier this year.

Interestingly, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, who is played by Seth Rogen, was paid to consult on Sorkin's film, which is loosely based on Walter Isaacson's biography of Jobs. Laurene Powell Jobs was offered a chance to discuss the script and see a finished version of the film, but she refused, according to the Journal.

Aaron Sorkin has said that his portrayal of Jobs is not necessarily historically accurate, but intended to be a portrayal of the spirit of Jobs. "It's really the difference between a photograph and a painting," he told Wired in a recent interview.

"Steve Jobs" opens in select theaters on Friday and currently has a 89% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the review aggregator site.
