We've seen ketchup leather and sliced cheese. And now, Japan has the latest in flat, square foods of the future: pre-packaged sliced chocolate.
The Japanese company Bourbon is selling slices of chocolate that look like brown Kraft singles, according to Japanese news site RocketNews24.
The design is patent pending, according to the Bourbon website. The company is selling the slices in bulk online. You can get a dozen five-slice packs for 3,240 yen, or roughly $2.25 per pack.
The chocolate squares are about .08-inch thick and are made with “nama chocolate,” a type of chocolate that falls somewhere between dark and milk chocolate in flavor.
Bourbon has a variety of recipes on its website one can make with these slices of chocolate. For instance, you can easily cut out shapes and patterns with cookie cutters, like so:
Or the sliced chocolate can be laid flat on toast or a waffle to melt perfectly.
The individual slices of chocolate can be aesthetically appealing, but they're probably not as easy to work with as spreadable varieties such as Nutella.
One thing’s for certain — you could probably eat this straight out of its plastic wrapper.
