Everything we know about the iPhone 8

So far,  iPhone 7 rumors paint a unfortunately tame and bleak picture of Apple's next smartphone.

In fact, it looks like the iPhone 7 could actually be a member of the iPhone 6 family instead of a brand new generation with a new design.

It will be somewhat controversial if Apple ditches the headphone jack, but if all we can expect is a better camera and redesigned antenna stripes, then it's easily understandable if people are looking to the next iPhone that Apple will release in 2017, which some are calling the iPhone 8.

MacRumors spotted a report from an analyst at Barclay's that claims Apple will ditch the "S" model of the iPhone 7 and jump directly to the iPhone 8 in 2017.

Indeed, because Apple releases two iPhones in a single generation (iPhone 6, iPhone 6s), we'd usually expect the iPhone 7 in the Fall of 2016, and an iPhone 7s in the Fall of 2017.

Yet, since 2017 marks the iPhone's 10th anniversary, it wouldn't be surprising that Apple would do something special.

Rumors that the iPhone 8 will have an all-display front surface first emerged from John Gruber, the plugged in Apple blogger and podcaster from Daring Fireball

Gruber claims that he has heard insider "scuttlebutt" that the iPhone 8's front won't have any bezels or borders, and that it'll be one large display.

A report from the notorious Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo spotted by MacRumors says that the iPhone 8's body will be made of glass. If so, it could have a similar aesthetic as the iPhone 4 and 4s, both of which had a glass back.

Gruber also claims that the home button, which also houses the fingerprint sensor, will be embedded into the front glass panel, making it invisible.

Instead of the physical button we've seen on every iPhone so far, the button will be a capacitive touch-button.

Gruber's claims line up nicely with rumors posted by tech site i4u that a future iPhone will have an embedded home button.

Rumors from The Korea Herald news site spotted by MacRumors suggest that the iPhone released in 2017 will have an AMOLED display, which would look better than the LCD display in current iPhones.

It will have wireless charging.

The Barclay's analyst report intercepted by MacRumors also claims that the iPhone 8 will have wireless charging.

If the rumors that the iPhone 7 won't have a headphone jack are true, the iPhone 8 probably won't have one either.

Those rumors were sparked by MacOtakara, a Japanese Apple blog, which has been reliable in the past, and was spotted by AppleInsider.
