HBO released the first teaser trailer for the next season of "Game of Thrones" Thursday afternoon. Though most of the footage in the 40-second video is from prior seasons, the composition is telling.

Not only does the trailer have brand-new dialogue, but some split-second images may contain clues about season six. If you haven't seen it yet, watch it now.

Let's break this thing down.

Warning: There are major spoilers ahead for every season of "Game of Thrones."

The trailer opens on this shot of Jon Snow. A voiceover, says "We watch, we listen, and we remember. The past is already written. The ink is dry."

As Bloodraven's voice fades, a barrage of images come in quick succession.

In case those were too quick for you, we'll take them one at a time. First up: We return to the season five finale with Olly stabbing Jon.

Then we cut to Ned Stark as his head is cut off in season one. The trailer seems to want to remind viewers of all the death and destruction from previous seasons with a big focus on the Starks.

We see Arya going blind at the end of season five.

And Catelyn Stark as her throat is slit at the Red Wedding in season three. These first clips are very Stark-heavy.

Then we see Meera Reed (left), who's still with Bran Stark, killing a wight (the zombified skeleton on the right). This is from the season four finale.

This is a shot from the first episode of season four. It's Ned Stark's Valyrian sword, nicknamed "Ice," being melted down in a fire. Tywin Lannister ordered that the sword be re-forged into two new blades.

After "Ice," we get a flash of Joffrey's death from season four.

Then we cut back to the Red Wedding again for Robb Stark's final moment.

A break from dead characters comes with a shot of Jaime Lannister's hand being cut off.

Next, we see the three-eyed-raven, the dream form of Bloodraven who will teach Bran how to see into the past and future next season.

This shot of Daenerys and Drogon from season four is also devoid of death, but points to her predicament as of the season five finale. We last saw her surrounded by Dothraki, with only Drogon nearby for help.

Then we see the Meereenese harpy being torn from the pyramid — this scene was from season five.

Next is this shot of the White Walker known as the Night's King.

He turns this baby into a White Walker just by touching it. This was a big reveal for fans, since it showed the power of the Night's King in full force.

And what looks like a group of wights wearing the black of the Night's Watch. This scene might be brand new. We can't remember ever seeing this batch of wights before.

But this shot of Cersei is straight from the season five finale.

We also get a reminder of the creepy kiss Sansa and Littlefinger shared in season four.

Then there's one more flash of "Ice" in the fire. They might just be hammering home the original written series' title, "A Song of Ice and Fire." But maybe Ned's Valyrian steel sword is significant for season six since it’s the only known weapon to successfully kill White Walkers.

And let's not forget this memorable moment when the Night's King faced off with Jon Snow in season five's "Hardhome" episode.

Finally, the whirlwind of images subsides, and we're left with a long shot of Jon as he bleeds out — the final moment from season five.

A bright light flashes, and Bran is momentarily shown. His eyes are white, meaning he's currently warging and heading into another person's body.

The screen goes black, and Bran's voice says "They have no idea what’s going to happen." This seems like a poke at fans — we're totally in the dark about whether or not Jon Snow will live to see next season. But it also sounds like Bran has seen something from the future. We'll have to wait until April (or the next trailer) to learn more.
