The electric-car startup Faraday Future published a new video on Tuesday that gives us a hint about what will make the company so different from other carmakers.

While the company's new commercial doesn't shed much light on what its car will look like or what features it will entail, it does allude to new ownership models.

"What if all those cars parked in driveways had more interesting lives? ... What if you didn't so much own a car as use one whenever you needed?" the narrator in the video asks.

The California-based car company has kept quiet on details relating to its future vehicles. Company executives have said that the cars will be electric and that they are also developing autonomous technology.

But one thing the company has been more vocal about is that it will pursue alternative-ownership models.

Nick Sampson, Faraday Future's vice president of research and development, told Tech Insider in a recent interview that the company sees a big opportunity in a variety of ownership models.

Sampson said that while he believes some people will still want to own cars, there will also continue to be a shift toward more people wanting on-demand mobility.

"Equally, there will be people who want to have temporary use of a car like a Zipcar, or maybe a very temporary use of a car right when they need it like an Uber. So you can get the car you want it when you want it," he said.

Sampson said that while Faraday will sell cars initially, it sees a future where shared cars are dominant.

Faraday Future plans to reveal a concept car at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, but it's unlikely the car it reveals will be a production model. But Sampson has said that its vehicles will be on the road in the next few years.
