Dubai’s New Year’s Eve fireworks went off despite the nearby hotel fire

Earlier Thursday, a massive fire ignited at the Address Hotel in Dubai. Despite the incident, officials insisted that the city's massive fireworks to ring in 2016 would go off as planned.

The show, which centers around the Burj Khalifa skyscraper and includes 400,000 LED lights and 1.6 tons of fireworks, did in fact go off at midnight in Dubai.

The show was also supposed to be live streamed here, but that does not appear to have gone off as planned.

Here's another look at the celebration in the sky from Twitter.

Somebody even Periscoped the show from their car driving towards the city. You can watch that here

Despite the massive flames that engulfed at least 20 stories of the Address Hotel (located close to the Burj Khalifa) earlier on New Year's Eve, officials are reporting no fatalities and minimal injuries. They are also reporting that the fire is no longer spreading inside the hotel.
