"Batman v Superman" lays the groundwork for a new series of superhero films with appearances from Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman, with nods to even more icons.

While Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" will be the 13th film in its cinematic universe, the DC Comics' multiverse is still only in the single digits.

That's about to change. Back in October 2014, the studio announced 10 new films over the next five years, with "Batman V Superman" as only the first.

One of Wonder Woman's biggest rivals is Ares, the God of War. In the comics, he subtly manipulates politicians into escalating conflicts. War is connected to his power. The more conflict in the world, the more power he gains.
