TechCrunch's Josh Constine and Jon Russell reported on Thursday afternoon that ads will be coming to Facebook's messaging service during the second quarter of the year.

But random ads, at least for now, won't appear conversations you're having with friends. According to Constine and Russell, who obtained a memo Facebook has sent to some advertisers, ads will only be served to people who have had a one-on-one conversations with companies. That is, you'll only see ads from companies that you've already communicated with via Messenger, he reports.

Messenger is hugely popular — it was the world's most-downloaded iPhone app in the last quarter of 2015, according to Sensor Tower, an app market intelligence platform, and Facebook said in January that more than 800 million people use Messenger each month.

A Facebook spokesperson told Tech Insider that the company doesn't "comment on rumor or speculation."
