Acer just announced a new Chromebook laptop on Thursday called the Chromebook 14 for Work, and it has a couple features that every single laptop should have moving forward.
Acer is marketing the Chromebook 14 for Work as a business device, but anyone could benefit from its rugged features.
Did you suddenly get a flashback to that time you spilled a drink on your laptop in college? Even if you think you don't need it, it's there for that one time you knock a drink over your keyboard and potentially fry your laptop.
The other feature that every single laptop should have is durability. Yes, the ability to withstand a few knocks, drops, and exposure to elements that life throws at us sometimes. Some laptops can withstand a few dings here and there, but few are rated with military-rated standards.
Acer's Chromebook 14 for Work boasts military "U.S. MIL-STD 810G" protection against drops from heights of 48 inches, which is about the height of a desk, as well as high temperature, low temperature, humidity, vibration, rain, sand, and dust.
Rugged laptops aren't new. Panasonic's line of Toughbook laptops are super durable and often used by police and military forces, but they have ultra-chunky looks that doesn't suit everyone's tastes.
Acer's new Chromebook, however, looks pretty sleek. You can even customize the Gorilla Glass front panel with different designs.
The Chromebook 14 for Work runs on ChromeOS, which is essentially just the Chrome web browser. Pretty much everything you do on the computer is done on the web.
Under the water-resistant keyboard, you'll find one of Intel's latest Core i processors, up to 8GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. For 16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM, the Chromebook 14 for Work costs $349. It'll be available to buy in the US in May.
