Now's a great time to buy an Xbox One.
Starting Sunday, Microsoft's gaming console will be $299 for a limited time, which is $50 off the normal retail price.
Emphasis on "limited time" — you'll only be able to buy a $300 Xbox One between March 20 and March 28.
It's all part of Microsoft's Spring Sale for Xbox One. Starting March 20, you can get a $300 Xbox One and get select Xbox One games for 20% off. Then, starting March 22, Microsoft will be offering more deals for games, movies and TV shows throughout the week, with discounts anywhere between 40-60% off.
It appears as though Microsoft is trying to attract more people to the Xbox One as it gets ready to release "Quantum Break," an Xbox One exclusive game that boasts an impressive line-up of Hollywood actors like Shawn Ashmore from the "X-Men" movies and Aidan Gillen from "Game of Thrones." Considering how much emphasis Microsoft gives its Xbox One exclusives, we wouldn't be surprised if this Xbox One price drop was done in an effort to boost awareness and sales for that game, which debuts April 5.
Microsoft says the console's price drop is only temporary, but we're expecting that $299 price point for the Xbox One to stick eventually. Microsoft actually ran a nearly-identical promotion in fall 2014, when it temporarily discounted the $400 Xbox One console so people could buy it for $350. Even though it went back to its original price once the sale ended in January, Microsoft made the price drop permanent just two weeks later. Perhaps we'll see the Xbox One become permanently priced at $299 later this year, maybe at E3 in June. Or maybe even sooner.
