That's a surprise. For the past several years, the first episode of a new season has coincided with New York Comic Con. This year, that event will be taking place October 6-9.

The first eight episodes of the season will air starting in October with the second half of the season debuting February 2017.

Season six ended with a brutal cliffhanger. Jeffrey Dean Morgan made a grand entrance onto the show as fan favorite Negan, ruthlessly killing one of the cast's main characters.

However, fans were left to ponder just who was killed off the show. We'll finally learn more in October. We're currently inside "The Walking Dead" panel at Comic-Con. Stay tuned for more later in the day!
