People buy Tesla cars because they're beautiful, safe, environmentally-friendly, and high-tech.

And when it comes to all the high-tech packed into Tesla's cars, it doesn't get much better than Autopilot.

Autopilot allows Tesla cars sold after October 2014 to steer themselves and change lanes, avoid obstacles and barriers, and even parallel park themselves.

It's the first step towards Tesla cars becoming fully autonomous: Tesla CEO Elon Musk says in two years your car could travel across the country in order to find you, knowing how and when to refuel along the way.

Until Tesla cars are fully autonomous though, most customers will be experiencing what Autopilot has to offer. Thankfully, Tesla created a new video this week to showcase exactly what Autopilot can do.

One of the best Autopilot functions is the new "summon" feature introduced earlier this month.

Just pull out your smartphone, open the Tesla app, and press "Summon."

Autopilot also makes highway driving much more enjoyable.

By toggling a switch next to the steering wheel, your Tesla car will remain in its current lane on the highway, maintaining speeds that obey the local limits.

With another flip of that switch, you can easily change lanes.

Your car will use its 12 long-range ultrasonic sensors to detect 16 feet around the car in every direction, looking out for other cars and obstacles.

Once you've reached your destination, Autopilot can also handle one of the most annoying tasks for most drivers: finding a parking space, and parking in it.

When you're getting ready to park, this is what you'll see on your Tesla car's 17-inch touchscreen located in the center console. Just push "start" to start Autoparking.
