Here are the injuries that kill the most people around the world

Fewer people are getting injured every year, but in 2013, 973 million people worldwide still had injuries that needed medical attention, and 4.8 million people died from their injuries that year.

Those numbers come from the latest update of the World Bank's Global Burden of Disease study, which was published in the journal Injury Prevention on Dec. 3

As a group, unintentional injuries were the highest category of injuries. These include falls, drowning, fires, and swallowing or somehow getting a foreign body inside the body, which can cause death by choking or bowel obstruction. 

Car crashes were the most common and most deadly type of injury, making up 29% of deaths. Self-harm, which includes suicide, was the next-most-common.
