Volvo's new 400 horsepower wagon is the best dad car ever

Volvo's V90 Wagon was officially shown off to the world Thursday and it looks absolutely fantastic. And, it has the performance features and safety tech to back up those good looks as well.

Though not much has been said about interior gadgetry and comfort features inside the V90, you can probably expect it to be somewhat on par with the well-loved XC90 SUV. It looks like the full LCD, customizable gauge cluster from the XC90 has been handed down, as was the huge driver infotainment screen in the center of the dashboard.

I wish when I was growing up, my father's car had an interior like this. Why do the Swedes believe so strongly in spoiling children with comfortable, good-looking car interiors?

Volvo V90 Is Safe

Of course, because it's a Volvo, the V90 is also bound to be incredibly safe. At least it will be if they want to keep that whole "death-proof cars by 2020" goal alive. The graphic above shows the different strength metals that Volvo used around the V90.

Like the XC90, the V90 will also have Volvo's accident avoidance technologies. These include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping aids, the city safety package, and distance alert as standard. Buyers will also be able to select safety packages that include blind spot warning assist, rear collision warning, and a birds-eye 360 degree camera system as options.

Basically, if it thinks you're going to crash, the V90 will try and not let you crash. If you do happen to crash, the car is built so that car's occupants will be injured in as little ways possible, or not at all.

One of the 5 powertrain options Volvo is offering is a 410 horsepower, turbocharged and supercharged 4-cylinder motor that also uses an optional plug-in hybrid system. They're calling this the T8 engine option.

Electric power is sent to the rear wheels and can be used on its own without the gas motor for up to 30 miles. When used with the gas motor, the V90 is capable of a zero to 62 miles per hour in just 5.2 seconds.

Not bad at all for a car that weighs right around 4,000 pounds.
