Volvo will let you binge watch shows in its driverless cars

Volvo wants you to sit back, relax, and watch TV while your car drives itself.

The automaker will unveil an "intelligent" streaming platform at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which begins Tuesday and runs throughout this week. But this isn't just a screen that streams movies and TV shows for you — Volvo aims to provide system that can optimize your route based on what you're watching, so if you're in the middle of that "Friends" marathon, your drive will end just as the credits begin to roll.

"With autonomous drive it is no longer just a question of just getting from A to B quickly — it’s about the experience you wish to have in the car — how you wish to spend the time you are saving," Anders Tylman, general manager at the Volvo Monitoring and Concept Center, said in a press release.

"With our future autonomous drive technology we will provide people with the freedom to choose the way they would like to commute and the content they would like to experience,” he continued.

This technology, however, is still years away from showing up in any Volvos you'll find at your local dealership.

A few months ago Volvo revealed its Concept 26, a driverless concept car, which features seats that recline all the way back when in autonomous mode. Even though it's still very much a concept car, Volvo says it will roll out some of the concept's features to new cars in the future.
