This race car can tear apart sand dunes and get you to work

A United Arab Emirates startup is building a "sandracer" that they hope to sell to the public in the near future.

The car was built to perform in an off-road, sand racing track in Dubai that the startup, Zarooq, plans on developing (there's no timeline regarding the track's completion). But Zarooq is making the car road legal and equipping it with features like AC so it could be sold to the public as well.

The sandracer can reach a max speed of 200 kilometers per hour (124 miles per hour). It has 371 newton-meters (274 pound-feet) of torque. It also has a carbon fiber chassis which helps keep it lightweight.

Those looking to buy it should know that Zarooq is only aiming to focus on sales in the UAE, according to a press release. But there are people in Europe interested in importing the car, meaning it could make its way elsewhere.

“We will concentrate on exports and launching new products once our local sales are sustainable,” Mohammed Al Qadi, Zarooq's motorsport director, wrote in the press release.

The car is aimed "at drivers who want a high performance sand racing car, which is affordable and easy to maintain," the press release reads.

Deliveries will begin in early 2016 and it will price anywhere from $60,000 to $160,000.
