According to teens, these are the 8 best ways to flirt online

No matter what your age, the art of flirting can be hard to master. Teens however, seem to have unlocked the secret: social media.

A new study, "Teens, Technology and Romantic Relationships," from the Pew Research Center surveyed teenagers ages 13 to 17 to provide a clearer understand of the "digital romantic practices" of America's youth. 

Here's a look at some of their findings.

While in-person conversations are still the number one choice for flirting, the other top seven methods for teenage flirting all involve technology or social media, Pew reports. Fifty percent of teens surveyed said sending a Facebook friend request was an effective way to show romantic interest. 

Liking and commenting on a prospective significant other's social posts was another top choice.

"Like all of them. Like, like, like, like, like, like all the pictures," one teenage girl told Pew about flirting on Instagram

For those looking to get a little bit bolder with their flirtation, emoji are the way to a teen's heart. 

"Well, if you really putting yourself out there, you could comment on their picture with a heart emoji," another high school girl told Pew.

If your teenage flirtations were characterized by making mix tapes, never fear. Today's teens are still using music to find love, it just looks a little bit different. Eleven percent of teens surveyed reported using playlists to show affection.
