One of the Galaxy S7's best features is its water resistance, but the S7 won't let you charge it if it's still wet, according to an Android developer's forum post found by 9to5Mac.
The Android developer said they got a warning message saying "moisture detected in charging port" when they tried charging their S7 four hours after taking it out of the water. Apparently, the S7 wouldn't charge until it became dry and safe to do so.
It seems to be a safety measure designed to prevent water-related damage from charging the S7 while the microUSB port has some moisture leftover from a swim.
This wasn't an issue on Samsung's last water-resistant smartphone, the Galaxy S5, as it had an unsightly and flimsy water-resistant cover over the microUSB charging port that prevented water from getting inside the port.
When asked about the S7's water resistance, Samsung told Tech Insider that it's sealed against water from the inside. Doing so let Samsung give the S7 a sleek design without ugly and flimsy water-resistant port covers.
Since there's no cover, water could easily get in and remain deep in the microUSB charging port where the metallic charging connection points are exposed, even after the phone was taken out of the water hours ago.
Samsung made a big deal about the S7's water resistance when it announced the phone in February during Mobile World Congress.
Assuming people will take the S7 into shallow pools to take underwater pictures, Samsung did well to install this safety feature before it became an overlooked design flaw, like the Galaxy Note 5 stylus debacle where the stylus features would break if you replaced it the wrong way round.
