The Social ShotYour Facebook data may be more useful than you think.
A group of German product designers created a robot that uses data from your Facebook account to create a personalized cocktail made just for you.
Here’s how it works: The user logs into the terminal, grants access to his or her Facebook profile, and then the system uses an algorithm developed by the University of Cambridge to determine a personality profile of the user based on their likes.
There are five ingredients, each representing one part of the Big Five, which is a popular factor model used in psychology that breaks down human personality into five traits: Neuroticism, extroversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness.
The robot — called the Social Bot — uses the personality profile created to create a customized drink based on the individual.
For example, the Social Bot site says that “a Facebook user whose profile suggests a smaller amount of conscientiousness will receive a shot with less vodka. On the opposite, the Social Shot for a very faithful person will contain more alcohol.”
The site doesn't state what other ingredients pair with each personality trait or what their plans are for the device, but according to a brief press statement, the project is a fun way of turning abstract data sets into a "colorful, drinkable diagram allows an unusual glimpse at the value and significance of our personal data."
