The pods are made by 2 Getthere, a Netherlands-based pod producer that is bringing the driverless pods to the Asia-Pacific region. The pods can carry 24 passengers each, allowing for the transport of 8,000 passengers per hour in any single direction, the company wrote in a press release.

The pods can drive in poor weather conditions and operate autonomously using artificial landmarks, according to the press release.

Singapore isn't the only city exploring driverless public transportation options. Citymobil2, a program partially funded by the EU, has rolled out driverless electric shuttles in cities like Vantaa, Finland and Trikala, Greece.
