Apple is using a new technology that will make the iPhone 7 thinner and lighter, according to Korean news site, ETNews.

The technology is called "fan out packaging," and ETNews claims it'll also help improve battery life, as well as cellular signal strength.

Fan out packaging technology essentially makes certain chips more powerful and efficient while making them smaller, which will allow Apple to reorganize the components in the iPhone 7 more efficiently.

With a more efficient layout of its components, Apple could potentially make the iPhone 7 extremely thin.

Smaller components would also leave more room for a larger battery, which could explain why ETNews claims the technology would improve battery life.

ETNews claims no other smartphone maker has used the fan out technology.

In its report, ETNews claims Apple has ordered "fan out" parts from Japanese suppliers. ETNews has been reliable in reporting Apple rumors in the past.
