I was re-watching the original Star Wars on Monday and, during the famous Mos Eisley cantina scene in which the bartender tells the droids to leave, I thought to myself, "Are robots big drinkers?"

The answer is apparently yes, at least in the case of one robot from South Korea. Its name is "Drinky," and he's like a drinking buddy who never gets a hangover.

The creation of inventor Eunchan Park, Drinky was recently unveiled at the Art Center Nabi in Seoul at its month-long "Robot Party", a collection of over 50 robots focused on "emotional communication between machine and human being," rather than bots with industrial or business applications.

And what better way to connect with humans than over a cold one?

Here's how Park described the idea for Drinky, according to the description posted on YouTube:

"On Christmas in 2012, I drank Soju (Korean alcohol) alone because I had no girlfriend at that time. Drinking alone was definitely terrible! So I couldn't drink anymore. Lastly, I put an extra glass in front of me and poured Soju into it. And then, I cheered by myself with the glass of Soju, as though there was someone in front of me."

He's apparently not the only one impressed with Drinky, who, in addition to downing shots, also looks around, gives a thumbs up, and dances.

"The robot seems to be in a good mood since it keeps on dancing," Hong Hye-ji, a visitor to Nabi, told Arirang News. "I think this robot will help me cheer up on bad days."

Sadly, Drinky is a one-off robot. There are no plans for production at the moment.
