When you think of Porsche, sports cars, supercars, and track beasts likely come to mind. Probably not wagons.

Not to say there'd be anything wrong with a five-door car with hatch from the enthusiast-driven German automaker.

In fact, from many Porsche enthusiasts, that kind of car would be extremely welcome.

Porsche lovers have been waiting for a Porsche wagon since the Sport Turismo concept was shown off at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

Now, we've just learned that not only will a Porsche wagon be available for purchase by consumers, but it will also be coming to American dealers.

Unfortunately, the same can't be said for many of America's favorite wagons.

Porsche's North American head Klaus Zellmer told Automotive News that Porsche is "confident that this [body style of] car will be well-received here [in America], despite the fact that this country doesn't really like hatchbacks or wagons."

Zellmer also confirmed that this new style of car will likely not be available until 2018 or later.

The Porsche wagon will be built on the next generation Porsche Panamera. The sedan will be shown off at the Paris Motor Show in late 2016.

Though this is the first time Porsche will be selling a wagon, it's not the first time it's built one. In the late 1980s, Porsche built a wagon based on its 928 sports car.

It never reached the market.
