One of the most popular games on Earth can now be played in virtual reality. "Minecraft" is now available to download in the Facebook-owned Oculus Store for Samsung's Gear VR headset. It costs $6.99.

The VR version of "Minecraft" includes all the features of the game's mobile "Pocket Edition," including creative and survival modes, customizable player skins, and the ability to play with others online.

"Minecraft for VR" was first teased last fall, and we got to play with it last month — you can watch our video review of that experience for more. The VR version's theater view feels more like a traditional "Minecraft" experience with a wider field of view. But the real joy is first-person mode, where experience the world of "Minecraft" first-hand, from the perspective of your character.

You'll need a wireless gamepad to play "Minecraft," and the Oculus team recommends the SteelSeries Stratus XL. Here's a video trailer of the game:

"Minecraft" is one of the first massive game franchises to embrace VR, and for now it's exclusively available on Samsung's $200 Gear VR for Samsung phones. (If you buy a new Samsung phone a Gear VR is thrown in with your purchase.) "Minecraft" is also going to be available on the more expensive, higher quality Oculus Rift VR headset this spring.
