Kids are trying to convince local news channels they're teachers and 'school has been canceled'

As folks on the east coast country prepare for a potentially massive snowstorm this weekend, kids in the Chattanooga, Tennessee, area are hoping for a snow day this week too.

To make sure that happens, one kid is taking matters into their own hands, WTVC News Channel 9 reports, by direct messaging the news station on Twitter pretending to be a school official and telling the station that classes are canceled.

But the news station didn't believe the kid for a second.

"When the threat of winter weather arises — which is somewhat rare this far south —we really hear a lot from the kids," News Channel 9 web director Dan Lehr told Tech Insider. "They try every way they can think of to find out if they'll be off the next day. Until a school system announces, the anticipation can be overwhelming for them."

Luckily, the station has a good sense of humor.

This wouldn't be the first time kids have gone to extraordinary measures to get a day or two off from school. In 2014, friends of Dante de Blasio, the son of New York's Mayor, Bill de Blasio, sent Dante plenty of Facebook messages imploring him to get his father to cancel school during winter storm Hercules

For now, WTVC New Channel 9 would probably like you to remember that, contrary to popular belief on Twitter, they don't actually have any say over whether or not the children of Chattanooga will have to get up for school in the morning.
