On Tuesday, presidential candidate Jeb Bush tweeted a picture of an engraved handgun without context. The caption read simply, "America."

Take a look.

It was only a few minutes before Twitter users, mostly members of the media, started firing back at Bush with gun tweets of their own. Check out this one from New York Times reporter Dave Itzkoff

In September 2015, the Telegraph reported that Bush was one of just three Republican candidates who did not own a firearm, so Bush's personalized firearm seemed a bit out place to some.

Still, it makes for a great joke. Here's my take.

Responses to Bush's tweet quickly exploded on Twitter.

The simple "America" caption was prime for meme making. Check out this one from BuzzFeed's DC Bureau Chief, John Stanton

Or this bizarre picture of Pikachu riding the subway from The Atlantic's Robinson Meyer.

New York Magazine associate social media editor Nate Goldman took a much more serious approach.

As did Verge managing editor T.C. Sottek, who noted that Bush could use a "gun safety course."

If you want to find more of these memes on Twitter, a simple serach for "America." will do the trick. Just remember to like any tweets you find funny. Or as Jeb Bush might say, "please clap."

And if you're thinking about making your own, think twice.

According to Lydia Polgreen, the West Africa bureau chief of The New York Times, the "meme-ent" has already passed.
