The Panama Papers leak is naming some of the world's most influential people in what appears to be money laundering through anonymous shell corporations.
One of the biggest names in the leak is Sigmundur Gunnlaugson, the prime minister of Iceland. The Panama Papers documents allege that he hid millions in investments through a shell company and neglected to tell parliament, the Atlantic reports,
Gunnlaugson maintains that he didn't break any rules.
But despite calls from opposition leaders for his resignation, Gunnlaugson said in a television interview on Monday that he refuses to step down.
“The government has had good results,” he said. “Progress has been strong and it is important that the government can finish their work. I will listen to the peoples' stand in the next elections.”
He then walked out of the interview, saying that he had been "tricked" into having the conversation.
