The pros of custom menswear are undeniable, but bespoke construction, fine attention to detail, and a perfect fit tend to require long wait times and steep price tags. If you're looking for something with an elegant fit that requires zero fuss (and won't cost you several thousand dollars), I recommend checking out Bonobos — specifically, the Jetsetter Stretch Wool Suit, which is a great option under $700 with a ton of fit options.

Suits have long been part of Bonobos' catalog, but the Jetsetter Stretch Wool Suit is my favorite version yet. We named Bonobos one of the best brands for comfortable men's work clothes, so it's no surprise they know how to do suits well. Aside from comfort, the Jetsetter Suits are a winner for their overall fit, convenience when ordering, and price.

The suit jacket comes in three fits (slim, athletic, and standard) and the suit pants come in five fits (tailored, slim taper, slim, athletic, and classic). You can choose between six neutral colors, from grey to black to navy. While it isn't completely bespoke, the customizable options are a real convenience — and can make a huge difference in getting a suit that fits your body type and style preference.

What it's like to wear

I ordered the slim-fit Jettsetter suit in light navy. I went with a 38R for the jacket, and for the pants, I went with 31x30. I was happy to see that Bonobos offers different inseam lengths for the pants (off-the-rack suits typically have one super-long inseam that requires a trip to the tailor), although shorter options like 29-inch inseams would be nice for people going for an above-the-ankle fit. I paired the suit with one of our picks for the best white dress shirts for men and a silk tie.

The suit arrived two days after I placed my order, which is much faster than any made-to-measure option I've ever worn. The suit fit me nearly perfectly, and while there are slight changes I would've made had it been a made-to-measure garment — for example, ever so slightly shorter sleeves to show off more of my white dress shirt — I had no real complaints with the look or fit.

I've tried other ready-to-wear suits in the past, but they still required too many alternations to wear as-is, ultimately defeating the purpose of choosing a ready-to-wear suit. This one got me a ton of compliments and everyone was surprised to hear that I hadn't gotten anything about the suit tailored.

The bottom line

Shopping for a suit doesn't have to be hard and Bonobos is proof of that. Considering it took me less than 10 minutes from start to finish to pick a suit — including the color, sizing, and fit — I couldn't ask for more out of a ready-to-wear suit. If you're strapped for time, simply hate long drawn-out shopping experiences, or are on a budget that won't afford you a fully custom suit, the Bonobos Jetsetter Stretch Wool Suit is one of the better options out there.
