On Wednesday Google announced a voice-controlled speaker hub called Google Home. Like the Echo, the Home is a WiFi speaker that can play music, help you search the web, complete tasks, and even control your home. It responds to the voice command "Hey Google."

Google Home will work with the company's Google Assistant technology to help you manage your calendar, check your flight status, send texts, and more. Like Amazon's Echo platform, developers will be able to integrate with Google Home to let it work with apps like Uber and smart home devices from the likes of Nest.

The base of Google Home is customizable too. Google will offer different bases you can swap out to change the look of the device.

Google said that the Home will be on sale "later this year." The company hasn't shared any pricing information yet. You can sign up for updates on Google's website.

On February 28, Axel Springer, Business Insider's parent company, joined 31 other media groups and filed a $2.3 billion suit against Google in Dutch court, alleging losses suffered due to the company's advertising practices.
