Animation is coming to the world of Westeros.
"Game of Thrones" creator George R.R. Martin said in a blog post that he's working with HBO on three animated projects set in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire — the series of novels he wrote that are the basis of the TV shows.
"None of them have been greenlit yet, but I think we are getting close to taking the next step with a couple of them," Martin said.
He added that there is "no way to know" whether the projects will make it to air. "Nothing is certain in Hollywood," he said.
One of the projects is the previously announced "Nine Voyages," which is being changed from live-action to animation. The "House of Dragon" prequel is set to feature Corlys Velaryon, known as the Sea Snake, as he traverses across Essos.
Martin said he supports the change because budgetary constraints would have made a live-action series too expensive. Half the show takes place at sea, Martin said, and requires a different port every week.
The details of the other two animated projects have yet to be disclosed.
Earlier this year, HBO officially confirmed its next spinoff after "House of Dragon."
"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight" takes place a century before the events of "Game of Thrones" when the Targaryen family line still holds the Iron Throne, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Meanwhile, season two of "House of Dragon" is scheduled to premiere in the summer of 2024.
The final book in the A Song of Ice and Fire saga, called "The Winds of Winter," has been in the works for over a decade, and still does not have a firm release date.
