Coffee makers, Sodastreams, and blenders can take up a lot of counter space. In small kitchens, that means you have to sacrifice certain things.

One potential solution: a new GE and Keurig appliance concept by that would make coffee, soda, and smoothies all-in-one. Called the Beverage Center, it would be built right into the wall and replace basically every appliance that makes drinks.

"We know that cooking is a big part of making a meal, and we have appliances that do this very well. But creating beverages is also part of the dining experience," GE Appliance's Manager of Concept and Brand Development, Chris Bissig, tells Tech Insider. "We wanted to stretch beverage creation to imagine a stand-alone appliance that could do much more."

GE Appliances has only made a working prototype, and there aren't any concrete plans to manufacture or sell it yet, he says. Since it's only a concept at this point, the company declined to share any pricing info.

Measuring 30 inches wide and 18 inches tall, the Beverage Center crafts drinks with pods like a normal Keurig, Bissig says. Similar to how a wall oven is installed, it's built right into a kitchen wall.

There are three different areas: one that dispenses coffee/tea, one that makes carbonated soda, and one that powers the blender. For making coffee, you pop a Keurig pod in the tiny top drawer.

Right underneath the coffee pod drawer there's a drawer designated for tea and soda. You place a cup underneath, push the button on the left, and the appliance dispenses your drink.

To make a smoothie, you take out the glass container (which acts as a blender) from storage on the righthand side. You then add fruit and ice to it, and attach that to the Center (pictured below).

It doesn't look to easy to incorporate into most existing kitchens since you need to build it into the wall.

On the other hand, it would free up a lot of space on your counter top. You'd never need to buy another coffeemaker or blender — with the Beverage Center, all of these appliances are just there when you need them.
