"Gravity Rush: Remastered"

Gravity Rush: Remastered
Sony

You're forgiven if you've never heard of "Gravity Rush" before — it was a PlayStation Vita exclusive, which is basically like hiding your game. Good news, though! It's getting a prettied up re-release on PlayStation 4 this month, and you should definitely check it out. In "Gravity Rush," you play as a girl named Kat who can basically fly around. It's a gorgeous, mysterious game that we can't suggest enough.

"Crypt of the Necrodancer"

Crypt of the Necrodancer
Klei Entertainment

Though the world of music/rhythm games has been dominated by the likes of "Rock Band" and "Guitar Hero" for years, "Crypt of the Necrodancer" takes the concept and turns it into something all its own. Instead of fighting your way through a "crypt," you've got to DANCE, baby!

"XCOM 2"

XCOM 2
Firaxis Games

"XCOM 2" is almost certainly destined to be the best game of February that people will miss. Everything from the game's name ("XCOM"?) to how it sounds on paper (a tactical, turn-based game where you fight aliens as a soldier) is unappealing and inaccessible. That said? "XCOM" is an amazing series that's accessible, fun, funny, and surprisingly gripping.

"Firewatch"

It helps that "Firewatch" is crazy beautiful. Campo Santo

In "Firewatch" you're a man named Henry, exploring the Wyoming wilderness as a park ranger on the lookout for wildfires. That's just the premise, of course, and the actual game is about your relationship with your supervisor (Delilah) and how your responses to her affect said relationship. Oh, and there's a mysterious stranger who keeps showing up in the distance. Spooooo-oooky!

"Unravel"

Unravel
EA

Gorgeous, evocative 2D platforming games are one of the most delightful revelations of the last few years. Games like "Limbo" and "Braid" set the standard, and new games like "Unravel" are carrying the torch forward. In "Unravel," you play as a young boy made of yarn who's on a journey. Where that journey will take him is the big question mark, but he'll have lots of platforming-based puzzles to solve in the process.

"Street Fighter 5"

Street Fighter V
Capcom

Unlike many of its contemporaries, the "Street Fighter" series has managed to stay fresh and interesting across 30 years of game consoles. The fifth main series entry in the long-running 2D fighting series aims to bring occasional street fighters back into the fold, and adds a quartet of new characters. It's already caused a small stir of controversy for changing the look of quintessential "Street Fighter" poster boy Ken Masters.

Fire Emblem Fates
Nintendo

Heads up, tactical RPG fans: there's a new "Fire Emblem" coming in February, and it looks to continue the staples that the series is known for. You'll still be trudging through a battlefield covered in the fog of war, and you'll still be carefully selecting your battles as you do so. This one has been out in Japan for awhile, but that time afforded the game proper localization.

"Far Cry: Primal"

"Far Cry Primal"
Ubisoft

Ever wonder what it's like to sneak up on a wooly mammoth and murder it with a bunch of your friends? "Far Cry: Primal" answers that question with a first-person account, played by you, in a pre-historic riff on the usual first-person sneak-and-stab that the "Far Cry" series is known for.

"Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2"

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2
EA

The "Plants vs Zombies" games may have started life as a tower-defense game, but the memorable, ridiculous characters from the series have gone on to great things in the first-person shooter genre. And in 2016, folks who love first-person shooting but love first-person plant shooting even more are in for a treat.
