CW's "The Flash" added a big character on Tuesday night when viewers saw their first peek at Wally West.

In the comics, the character eventually becomes the third iteration of the Flash and the first Kid Flash, a sidekick to the fastest man alive.

Tech Insider caught up with Keiynan Lonsdale, who plays West after his premiere Tuesday. While it looks like the show may take a different route with his character, Lonsdale hinted we may indeed see Kid Flash on the series.

"I’m waiting for that moment. I don’t know when it’s going to happen. I don’t know if it’s even going to happen this season," Lonsdale tells Tech Insider. "I kind of just take every episode and script as it comes. I guess the most important thing at this point is just figuring out all of the family issues and kind of getting a close relationship with them. And then, I’m sure once Wally’s in a good place, we can hopefully start to make that transition into Kid Flash. Honestly, I can’t wait. I think it’s going to be such a cool thing to do. If they play it out like Barry’s sidekick, that would be awesome. That would be so much fun."

Here's a look at two versions of West in the comics:

For now, Lonsdale says he has a lot of family drama to deal with before we even possibly see him as any type of superhero on screen.

In the comics, Wally is the nephew of Iris West. The TV has flipped that on its head a little bit. Now, Wally is Iris' long lost brother who she has only recently learned about.

His first appearance Tuesday night showed us the first time he met his sister and father, Joe West.

"Telling her dad that he has a son that he hasn’t known about this whole time," says Lonsdale. "It’s huge and I think it was a really awesome decision for them to make Wally’s connection to that family so immediate. It opens up a lot of doors."

Until then, Lonsdale is hitting "The Flash" comic books.

"I didn’t grow up reading comics," he says. "After watching the show I’ve just become a fan and as I was auditioning I bought comics from the New 52 and then I kept buying them waiting for Wally to be introduced. DC actually just recently sent me a whole stack of old school Wally West comics so I’m really excited to keep going deeper into that."

Perhaps those old comics may help hint at the direction of his character, too.

"The Flash" will return from its holiday hiatus January 19, 2016.
