Bethesda Game Studios, the studio that created and published "Fallout 4," isn't known for churning out game after game.
Instead, the company chooses to focus on a couple of major franchises: "Fallout" and "The Elder Scrolls" are its two main series.
If you haven't heard of the latter, you've likely heard of the series' latest entry, "Skyrim," which released in 2011.
Apparently, the worlds of "Fallout 4" and "Skyrim" could actually be one in the same, according to an amazing Easter Egg spotted in "Fallout 4." Kotaku writer Patricia Hernandez spotted this in The Prydwen, a flying ship in "Fallout 4" belonging to one of the game's main factions (The Brotherhood of Steel):
Did you already make the connection? We'll forgive you if you didn't — it's pretty obscure. Allow us to explain!
You see, in "Skyrim" (and other "Elder Scrolls" games), there's a plant called "Nirnroot." It glows, and is usually found next to water. It looks like this in "Skyrim":
In "Fallout 4," a very similar plant is being grown by one of The Brotherhood of Steel's researchers (called a "scribe" in the "Fallout" universe).
But, beyond the visual similarity, the scribe growing the plants left a handful of journal entries further alluding to the crossover between "Skyrim" and "Fallout 4." Like so:
Perhaps "Skyrim" is the distant future, long after the nuclear holocaust that humans caused? Or maybe it's in the distant past, long before the Atomic Age that brought down human civilization? Or maybe it's neither, and this is just a fun nod to fans of both series from their creators.
No matter what the case, we've got high hopes for a proper crossover into the fantasy world of "Skyrim" through the scope of "Fallout 4." Maybe downloadable content? Eh?
