During the award ceremony of Musk's Hyperloop Contest last week, he said he is tempted to build one.

"I have been thinking about the vertical take off and landing electric jet a bit more," Musk said. "I think I have something that might close — I'm quite tempted to do something about it."

This isn't the first time Musk has said he wants to build an electric jet.

During a Marketplace Interview in October, Musk said he had a design for an electric jet ready to go.

“I do like the idea of an electric aircraft company. I think one could do a pretty cool supersonic, vertical, take-off and landing electric jet. That would be really fun... I have a design in mind for that," he said in the interview.

Musk said in that interview that he believes all future vehicles will be electric, making it a promising venture.

"Aircraft and ships and all other forms of transport will go fully electric. Not half electric, but fully electric. No question,” he said.

In a CNN Money interview, Musk said the "ideal, long distance transportation mechanism is a supersonic, vertical take-off and landing electric jet."

But Musk also has a lot on his plate right now. He has big plans for SpaceX and Tesla, and is also working on releasing a new version of Tesla's Powerwall, an electric rechargeable battery for your home. Ramping up production of the new Powerwall will require completing the Gigafactory by 2017.

Watch him talk about a potential electric jet at the 18:05 mark:
