Young people everywhere are sending eggplants and A-OK emoji to one another, and condom supplier Durex thinks the suggestiveness has gone too far.

In preparation for World AIDS Day on December 1, Durex unveiled its new #CondomEmoji campaign in the hopes of persuading the powers that be to bring a condom emoji to life.

Younger generations are disproportionately affected by sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). In 2014, people between the ages of 15 and 24 made up two-thirds of all chlamydia and gonorrhea cases, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Other CDC estimates suggest half of the 20 million new STD cases each year come from people in this age group.

Can adding a condom emoji to the end of a text of a donut and an eggplant encourage people to practice safer sex?

Durex thinks so.
