We went to a private event at the Docusign CEO's home on San Francisco's Billionaire's Row — here's what it was like

Last week, Docusign CEO Keith Krach hosted a private event at his home in San Francisco.

Krach is one of the most successful people in Silicon Valley, so it's no surprise that he lives on San Francisco's famous Billionaire's Row.

But the event was more than just about mingling with VIP guests: it was organized to raise awareness for a YC-backed nonprofit startup called New Story (which Krach has also invested in).

Business Insider was invited to the event to take a tour of Krach's house and to learn more about New Story's initiatives. Take a look at the event:

Krach's home is located in the swanky Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.

It's in one of the nicest areas in the city. Some of his neighbors include Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison and Zynga cofounder Mark Pincus. It's why people call it "Billionaire's Row."

This is Krach's home. It's a huge 4-story building.

Krach moved into this place last year. Fun fact: this property was the former Russian Consulate until 1998.

Here's Krach giving a speech at the event. He's now the CEO of Docusign, an e-signature company last valued at $3 billion. But this isn't the first leadership role he's taken. He was once the youngest VP in General Motors' history, and also cofounded Ariba, a software company SAP bought for $4.3 billion.

But last week's event had nothing to do with Docusign. It was organized to raise awareness for New Story, a nonprofit startup Krach has invested in. This is the team at New Story.

New Story basically takes donations to build homes in developing countries. The idea is to use technology to create a better charity organization. It connects the donor with the family receiving help, making the whole process more transparent. It's also backed by Y Combinator, one of the largest startup factories in Silicon Valley.

I got there early before it got crowded and picked up a name tag.

Before I went up to the top floor, where the event took place, I got a quick tour of Krach's beautiful house.

This is one of the dining rooms.

The kitchen is fantastic.

It's like everything came straight out of a furniture catalogue.

My favorite part of the house: an indoor basketball court.

And there's a small gym right next to the court. Krach said he recently dropped 35 pounds in 4 months by working out here every morning.

There's a nice little playroom right next to the court. Krach has twin kids.

And a movie room.

Anyways, the event was about to start, so I headed up to the top floor.

Krach has his own office on the top floor. That's the entrance to it. It was already getting pretty crowded.

Krach's office typically looks like this.

But there was already a huge crowd by the time we got there.

People filled the outdoor area too.

There were lots of drinks.

And an open bar.

That's a home elevator. This guy had to take the elevator to bring food from downstairs. Bite-sized food was served throughout the night.

Later, Krach called everyone to the back of the room. There were about two hundred people in total.

Krach gave a speech.

Then he gave the mic to Brett Hagler, cofounder and CEO of New Story. He announced a big partnership deal with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate that would build over 100 homes for those in need.

People were allowed to make donations on the spot.

Most of the people were real-estate executives who worked with both New Story and Docusign. Krach had this Docusign flag in front of his house.

And that's a wrap. Krach apparently hosts a number of these philanthropic events at his house. Until next time!
