Uber is sending out an email to its users clarifying that tipping is not expected or included after many were lead to believe the system was changing due to the terms of a settlement between Uber and some of its drivers.

Uber reached a $100 million settlement with drivers hailing from California and Massachusetts that agrees to recognize the drivers as independent contractors, not employees. As part of the settlement, drivers are allowed to solicit tips from passengers.
That means if you want to give your driver a tip, there's nothing prohibiting them from taking it. But the Uber app does not support tipping, Uber stated in a Medium post.
Uber outlined some of the reason it hasn't added tipping to its app in that Medium post, stating that tipping can be influenced by personal bias or could incentivize drivers to spend time in wealthier neighborhoods where they're more likely to get a tip.
But there are some reasons you may want to tip your driver.
