"Star Wars" fans received some exciting news Wednesday!

While there have been rumors, Entertainment Weekly confirmed that Darth Vader will indeed be coming back to a galaxy far, far away in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

That shouldn't come as too big of a surprise. After all, the movie will take place between "Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith" and "Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope," a time when Vader really made his rise and force felt across the universe.

We don't know too much about Vader's role in the film, but we do know he won't be the main villain of "Rogue One."

"Darth Vader kind of looms large over the plot even when he's not necessarily on screen because [of] the new villain played by Ben Mendleson, Director Krennic," Entertainment Weekly's Anthony Breznican told "Good Morning America" Wednesday morning. "He's [Krennic] trying to fulfill the wishes of the emperor and he's got kinda Vader looming in the background over his shoulder, making sure that he gets the job done."

It was long rumored that Vader would appear in the first "Star Wars" spin-off from Disney. Birth.Movies.Death reported we may see Vader as a "holo projection" in the film. "Star Wars" fan site MakingStarWars.net noticed Brian Muir, the man who helped create Vader's original helmet in the 1977 film, was joining the "Rogue One" team.

EW confirmed Thursday that James Earl Jones will return as the voice of Vader. That shouldn't be a surprise. Not only has Disney's reboot of "Star Wars" seen the return of most of the original cast, but the veteran actor has recently lent his voice to Vader in Disney's animated series, "Star Wars Rebels," and that's set before the events of "A New Hope." "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is set for release December 16, 2016.
