If you weren't born with curly hair, there are myriad tools to help you achieve the look — curling irons, hot rollers, curling wands, and even straighteners if you learn the tricks of the trade.

But YouTube beauty vlogger Paula Stephânia figured out a way to use bubble wrap to get her perfect curls.

The video may be in Portuguese, but it’s pretty easy to follow along to see how she did it. First, Stephânia took a length of bubble wrap and cut it into rectangular pieces.

She then rolled them up into long tubes. If you want your curls to be looser, make the tubes thicker by using a longer stretch of bubble wrap. If you want tighter curls, make the tubes thinner.

Then taking lightly gelled damp hair, Stephânia rolled sections of her hair up toward her head on the tube, which she then secures with a hair tie.

Here’s the process from another angle.

In comments on the video, Stephânia notes that you can sleep in the bubble wrap rolls to let your hair slowly dry overnight. Because the bubble wrap is so soft and squishy, it doesn’t bother her when she sleeps.

In the morning, her hair is perfectly curled.

The process is similar to products like foam rollers that are designed to curl hair overnight and typically cost less than $10. Stephânia’s advice is good for anyone in a pinch and also allows for varying sizes of curls.
